State of the Company
Each year, our government leaders give their “State of the Union” speech. It’s a time when they can communicate their vision to the people they serve.
Your company needs to share its vision, too. In the world of EOS®, your company has three opportunities to communicate its Vision.
The first is at a company kickoff meeting where you unveil your clearly defined Vision; the second is at your quarterly meeting when you set your Rocks in each department; and the third is during a quarterly state-of-the-company meeting.
The purpose of the state-of-the-company meeting is to share last quarter’s successes and progress, review your company’s Vision/Traction Organizer, and communicate the new company Rocks for the next quarter.
The agenda is simple. In the state-of-the-company speech, you’ll address:
1) where you’ve been
2) where you are
3) where you are going
You and your leadership team will need to fill each agenda item with three data points that will create a clear, concise picture of your company’s situation.
This keeps all of your employees in the know, and provides the updates they need to continue to be engaged in the company’s Vision and understand their role in getting you there.
The state-of-the-company meeting also gives your employees the opportunity to ask questions, and further understand the company’s direction. They’ll be able to decide if your company is where they want to continue to work. And it gives you the chance to be sure you have the right employees in the right positions, so you can delegate and elevate your company to the next level.
So much of EOS® is based on a 90-day world. Most people lose focus or get off track about every 90 days, which is why we emphasize the importance of regular quarterly meetings.
We encourage you to hold your state-of-the-company meeting with every employee in attendance every quarter – that’s the best way to create a consistent message with everyone on your team.
