It’s not enough for your employees to agree to fulfill the requirements of a job description. They must believe in your vision, understand your Core Values, and have the education, skills or background to do the job.
We teach our clients that the right people are those that “GWC” their position on the accountability chart.
GWC is a filtering system that stands for Get it, Want it and Capacity to do it. In order to fully perform in their role, they must have all three factors. If even one is missing, that person may not be the right person for that particular job. It’s a process that every business owner needs to work through when hiring for open positions, or when evaluating the productivity of filled positions.
GWC looks like this:
- People who “Get” their seat truly understand why the position exists in the company and how they contribute to the company’s vision. They grasp it, understand it, and live it.
- People who “Want” their seat are excited to achieve the responsibilities each day. They look forward to coming to work, and have the desire to do the job.
- People who have the “Capacity” have the God-given talents, skills, education, and any other requirements needed to fill the seat.
Occasionally, you can help a person fulfill a missing component of GWC if he or she genuinely wants to. It will take time and money on your part, so you’ll need to decide if it’s worth the investment to elevate that person. When people GWC their seat, you cannot imagine running your company without them.
