Growing Pains

I work with Leadership Teams in several industries because guiding and coaching them transcends any business.

I have worked with companies in payment processing, information technology, logistics, waterproofing, power washing, advertising, education, commercial janitorial services, and more.

I tell you this because across all of these industries, I routinely see four major challenges that Leadership Teams face:

Misaligned Team – Something feels “off” about your current team and their roles, but you can’t seem to put your finger on it. Continuing down this path will result in confusion, disorder, and poor communication.

This can be addressed by defining your company’s structure and ensuring you have all the right people in the right seats and everyone is accountable for their outcomes.

Timid Leadership – The Leadership Team makes the safe, easy decisions that never stretch the organization to reach its true potential. Continuing down this path will result in a lack of direction and sporadic growth.

Unfocused Path – You get pulled every which way trying to find your desired outcome and can’t seem to make any progress. Operating this way will result in the absence of team unity, clarity, and momentum.

These two challenges require your team to develop trust that is characterized by being vulnerable, getting the issues out on the table and solving the ones only they can solve, and helping each other grow. Doing so will result in the Leadership Team aligning with a shared vision and creating the right plan to achieve that vision.

Erratic Wins – When you do win, you can’t seem to figure out why and how to get it to happen again. Proceeding in this manner will result in accepting whatever results appear and being reactive rather than responsive.

It is necessary to define and measure the outcomes you want to achieve for your company, and then define the systems and processes that will accomplish your expected outcomes.

The do-whatever-it-takes mentality doesn’t really work. You can change that business approach and adopt current business concepts and tools that will help you fall in love with your business all over again.
